How Motoring.Today makes money

We believe you should understand how Motoring.Today is paid and whether any commercial relationship could affect what you see on our website.

Using Motoring.Today to search for vehicles, compare vehicles, reserve a vehicle or submit a finance application is free for customers.

We make money through completed online vehicle sales, sponsored vehicle promotion and, in some cases, completed finance agreements.

Completed vehicle sales

A dealer pays Motoring.Today a fixed transaction fee of £99 plus VAT when a customer completes a qualifying vehicle purchase through Motoring.Today.

This applies where the customer:

  • completes the purchase using finance facilitated through Motoring.Today; or
  • digitally reserves a vehicle through Motoring.Today and proceeds to complete the purchase.

The fee is only payable by the dealer after the vehicle sale completes. It is not charged when a customer merely submits an enquiry, starts an application or makes a reservation that does not result in a completed sale.

Customers do not pay any part of this fee, and it does not increase the advertised price of the vehicle.

We use our technology and information received from dealers and finance partners to identify completed transactions.

Sponsored vehicle listings

Dealers can pay to promote an individual vehicle or run a sponsored campaign.

Sponsored listings may receive increased visibility in search results. They are clearly labelled Sponsored so customers can distinguish them from standard listings.

Sponsored placement does not influence:

  • our independent vehicle reviews;
  • our editorial content;
  • our vehicle valuations; or
  • our assessment of whether a vehicle represents good value.

Finance information shown on vehicle listings

Some vehicle adverts contain representative finance information.

This information is provided by the dealer’s finance company under instructions from the dealer. Dealers do not pay Motoring.Today simply to display this finance information.

Before a customer creates an account or submits their personal information, finance figures are representative examples rather than personalised offers. Any personalised rate, payment or finance offer will depend on the customer’s circumstances and the assessment carried out by the relevant broker or lender.

Finance is subject to status and approval. Terms and conditions apply.

Applying for finance through Motoring.Today

Customers can submit a finance application through technology integrated into Motoring.Today.

The application is completed using a third-party technology provider and is passed automatically to the selling dealer and the dealer’s finance broker or finance company.

Motoring.Today:

  • facilitates the application to the dealer and finance provider;
  • does not decide which lender receives the application;
  • does not make lending decisions;
  • does not set the interest rate;
  • does not provide financial advice; and
  • does not recommend a particular lender or finance product.

Our current integrated finance broker is DSG Financial Services Ltd, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority under Firm Reference Number 649675. DSG Financial Services Ltd is a credit broker, not a lender.

We may work with other authorised finance brokers or lenders in the future.

Our finance commission

When a finance application made through our integrated finance journey results in the finance funds being released and the vehicle purchase completing, Motoring.Today receives a fixed payment of £100 from the integrated finance partner.

For our current integrated journey, this payment is made by DSG Financial Services Ltd.

The payment is fixed. It does not vary according to:

  • the amount borrowed;
  • the lender selected;
  • the finance product;
  • the agreement term;
  • the interest rate; or
  • the customer’s circumstances.

The £100 payment does not affect the customer’s:

  • APR;
  • monthly payment;
  • deposit;
  • total amount payable;
  • likelihood of finance approval; or
  • vehicle purchase price.

Customers are not charged for submitting a finance application through Motoring.Today.

For questions about the commission received by Motoring.Today, email compliance@motoring.today.

Are we impartial?

Motoring.Today has a commercial relationship with its integrated finance broker and receives a payment when an eligible finance agreement completes.

Because of this commercial relationship, we do not claim to act impartially when providing access to that integrated broker.

However, Motoring.Today does not select the lender that considers the application and does not recommend which finance product a customer should accept.

The integrated broker considers applications using a limited panel of lenders. It does not search every lender or every finance product available in the UK market.

Customers may be able to obtain cheaper or more suitable finance elsewhere and should compare the APR, monthly payments and total amount payable before entering into an agreement.

Customers are not required to use finance accessed through Motoring.Today and may arrange their own finance or pay for the vehicle using another accepted payment method.

Commission received by dealers and finance brokers

The selling dealer and finance broker may receive separate commission or other remuneration in connection with a finance agreement.

Motoring.Today does not determine or know the amount of commission received by the dealer or finance broker.

Customers should review the commission disclosure presented during the finance application and ask the dealer or finance broker for further information before entering into the agreement.

The commission received by the dealer or finance broker is separate from the fixed £100 payment received by Motoring.Today.

Vehicle reservations

Customers may be able to reserve a vehicle through Motoring.Today.

When a reservation is made, Stripe places a temporary authorisation hold on the customer’s payment card. Motoring.Today does not retain any part of this amount.

The authorisation hold is automatically released in accordance with our separate reservation terms.

Reservation availability, cancellation conditions and other relevant requirements are explained in the Vehicle Reservation Terms presented during the reservation process.

A dealer only pays Motoring.Today’s £99 plus VAT transaction fee if the reservation proceeds to a completed vehicle purchase.

Insurance

Motoring.Today does not offer, arrange or introduce insurance products and does not receive insurance commission.

Any insurance-group information, estimated insurance information or insurance-related educational content shown on Motoring.Today is provided for general information only. It is not an insurance quote, recommendation or introduction.
