How is the road tax figure worked out?

We apply the current 2026/27 VED (road tax) rules to the car's DVLA-registered CO₂, fuel type and date of first registration. It's the realistic annual rate the current keeper pays — not the one-off first-year showroom rate.

How accurate is the running-cost estimate?

Accepted Answer

It's an estimate grounded in DESNZ (government, OGL v3.0) weekly pump prices and quarterly electricity prices, using a typical economy figure for the car's fuel and engine size adjusted for real-world driving. Your actual costs depend on how and where you drive.

Does it tell me if the car can drive in the ULEZ?

It gives the London ULEZ position based on the car's DVLA fuel type and Euro emissions standard. For every other UK Clean Air Zone, use the full Clean Air Zone checker — always confirm the legal position with the operating authority (e.g. TfL for London).

What if my car isn't found?

Accepted Answer

Very new or recently re-registered cars may not appear in MOT records yet (MOTs are required from the third anniversary). Double-check the plate and try again in a few days, or check directly on gov.uk.
